Nigeria and South Africa have agreed to strengthen diplomatic cooperation following recent xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians living in South Africa.
During high-level talks in Abuja, officials from both countries pledged to de-escalate tensions, protect foreign nationals, and bring perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
The South African government condemned the violence and assured Nigeria that additional security measures would be implemented to safeguard affected communities. Meanwhile, the Nigerian government said it is compiling compensation claims for citizens who lost businesses and property during the attacks.
Both countries emphasized the importance of maintaining their longstanding relationship while working together to prevent future incidents and ensure justice for victims. �
