The Federal Government has destroyed 2,819 illicit, obsolete, and decommissioned firearms in a renewed effort to curb insecurity across the country.
The exercise, carried out by Nigeria's arms control agency, is part of ongoing measures to reduce the circulation of illegal weapons linked to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
Security officials said the destruction demonstrates the government's commitment to preventing seized weapons from finding their way back into criminal networks. They also urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could help combat illegal arms trafficking.
The latest action comes as authorities intensify operations against armed groups in different parts of the country, with the government reaffirming its determination to improve national security.
